01/28/2016 GENE SIMMONS HELPS GRANT YOUNG KISS FAN'S FINAL WISH
Note from Children's Hospital of Nevada
Last week, one of our patients, Dilan Kohn got his final wish. The critically ill 17-year old desperately wanted to meet and hang out with the infamous Gene Simmons from the band "KISS". Mr. Simmons had not only been Dilan's idol, but also his inspiration growing up. A big UMC thanks to the PICU Nursing staff along with the Child Life Specialist, Sarah Castiel, in making this wish possible. Mr. Simmons was sent an email request last Thursday afternoon and flew into Vegas the next morning. He showed up with a big bag full of signed memorabilia just for Dilan. The two hung out, shared stories and laughed together for well over an hour while staff looked on with tears in their eyes. Thank you Mr. Simmon's for making this wish come true just in time. Unfortunately Dilan passed away peacefully a couple days later.

KISS legend Ace Frehley will be releasing a new covers album this year. Origins Vol. 1 features an all-star lineup of musicians including his former KISS bandmate Paul Stanley, who hasn’t recorded with Ace in nearly 20 years. The list of musicians Ace rounded up for Origins Vol. 1 is pretty impressive. Stanley joins Ace for a cover of Free’s “Fire and Water.” “I thought Paul did a fabulous vocal on it,” Frehley tells Rolling Stone. “He jumped at the chance to do this because it’s something that’s outside of KISS and his character in KISS, and it gave him a chance to, you know, sing. With Paul, you usually think of him singing in a slightly higher register and on ‘Fire and Water,’ he’s singing deep from his diaphragm, and it’s a real cool vocal. Everyone who’s heard it just thinks it’s the s—t.” Other legendary guests include Slash, who trades leads with Ace for a version of Thin Lizzy’s “Emerald” and Lita Ford, who sings and plays lead guitar on a cover of The Troggs’ “Wild Thing.” Guitarist John 5 appears on two tracks within Origins Vol. 1 — Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic” and KISS’ own “Parasite.” Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready also joins in for a KISS cover, performing “Cold Gin” with Ace. Rolling Stone is currently streaming the first song released from Origins Vol. 1, Cream’s “White Room.” Ace Frehley’s Origins Vol. 1 will see an April 15 release. Fans who pre-order the album will get an instant download of “White Room” with their purchase. Ace Frehley is set to tour the U.S. soon, so check out his full list of dates here. Ace Frehley, ‘Origins Vol. 1′ Track Listing: 1. “White Room” (Cream) 2. “Street Fighting Man” (Rolling Stones) 3. “Spanish Castle Magic” (Jimi Hendrix) feat. John 5 4. “Fire and Water” (Free) feat. Paul Stanley 5. “Emerald” (Thin Lizzy) feat. Slash 6. “Bring It On Home” (Led Zeppelin) 7. “Wild Thing” (The Troggs) feat. Lita Ford 8. “Parasite” (KISS) feat. Asked if Kiss plans to release new music anytime soon, Paul Stanley, one of the legendary band’s founding members, responds with a long sigh.
It’s been four years since the band’s last album, 2012’s “Monster,” and Stanley’s band mate, Gene Simmons, has expressed to reporters his desire to get back into the studio. Stanley, on the other hand, isn’t so sure.
“I’m of the mindset now that I’d do another album if it wasn’t just a rehash of (‘Monster’),” Stanley said during a recent phone interview. “I’d want to do something with a little more scope. … If we pushed ourselves away from what we’d do instinctively or most easily, and if everybody’s on the same page and it works, I could see going into the studio.”
Stanley’s outlook seems to be that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. After all, Kiss, which performs at the Spokane Arena on Friday, has been a hugely popular touring act for more than 40 years.
“Bands are classic because you know what they’re going to do and you love it,” Stanley said.
Known for outrageous stage antics and its makeup-and-leather aesthetic, Kiss is as much a brand as a band, with likenesses of its members adorning everything from comic books to pinball machines. There’s even a Kiss-themed arena football team.
The band last came through Spokane in 2011, and Stanley says the group patterned this tour after its 2014 Las Vegas residency. Dubbed “Freedom to Rock,” the show promises all the pyrotechnics and power chords you’ve come to expect from a Kiss concert.
“It’s a big, awesome show, and the band is big and awesome,” Stanley said. “Anybody can pattern their show on what we’ve done in the past, but you’ll never be us. That’s why we’re Kiss, and that’s why we’ve been around 40 years.”
Since breaking through in the mid-’70s, Kiss has amassed a rabid fan base, which dubs itself the Kiss Army. Stanley says the band still tailors its shows to the fans: They’re still playing the songs that made them famous, and you can bet that Simmons is still spitting blood and breathing fire.
“To change the show because you’re bored in the band is an insult to the people paying for it,” Stanley said. “That’s who we’re doing this for. … To go up on stage and rearrange a song just because you’re tired of playing it, then quit! You have a responsibility and an obligation to your fans, and you should take it a lot more seriously.
“I’m damn proud to play ‘Detroit Rock City.’ I’m thrilled and honored to do ‘Rock and Roll All Nite,’ to do ‘Black Diamond.’ I have great pride in what I’m doing.”
Now that Kiss has become a legacy act, Stanley describes each new tour as a “victory lap.”
“We’re not out there trying to succeed or break ground in terms of exposure,” he explained. “We’ve scaled the heights. Now it’s a matter of going out there and justifying our place. It’s great to be considered classic rock because of the company we’re in. It’s pretty rarefied air up there. … We have to prove that we’re worthy of being around as long as we have.”
And even with four decades under his belt, Stanley says he’s often surprised that people are still discovering Kiss for the first time.
“I love when people leave going, ‘What have I been missing?’ ” he said. “It’s all about that joy that people get, and that sense of exhilaration when it’s over, that they rode the biggest roller coaster.”

Kiss frontman Paul Stanley believes Kiss will record another album – and knows what it needs to achieve
Kiss frontman Paul Stanley believes the band will record another album, despite the doubts he’s discussed in the past.
And he says he has a strong idea of what the work needs to achieve.
The subject of a follow-up to 2012’s Monster has been under discussion for some time, with Stanley saying in July that the band remained “conflicted.”
Guitarist Tommy Thayer said this month that their 2015 cartoon movie with Scooby-Doo did more for the band than another record would.
Now Stanley tells Cleveland Scene: “Records at this point are really something that, if we do, we do it for us more than anybody else.
“There really is no music industry. It’s a guy who ran Tropicana last year that may run a record company this year. It’s not a bunch of people who love music – it’s a commodity at this point.”
Monster reached No.3 in the US charts on release, while previous album Sonic Boom hit No.2, giving Kiss their highest-ever chart placing.
Stanley says the band have to find a good reason to return to the studio, adding: “Sonic Boom, there was definitely a reason to do. Monster, there was a reason to do.
“We’re toying – certainly I’m toying – with the idea of doing another album. I think it will happen.”
He continues: “The only thing I’m adamant about is that it’s not son of Sonic Boom or son of Monster, or son of any other album. It has to be something fresh, because, initially, the people we’re doing it for are us.”
