Ace Frehley Talks About His Future With Kiss
By Boris March 27, 2016 6:44 PM
Ace Frehley opened up to The Boris and Robyn Show about the status of his relationship with Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons.
“Origins Vol. 1″ is a new album of covers by Ace Frehley that will be released on April 15. One day later, Frehley will be hitting the stage at The Chance in Poughkeepsie. We thought it would be a great time to catch up with our favorite former member of Kiss and see what he’s been up to.
Frehley spoke to us about the new album and how he got Paul Stanley involved after there’s been so much highly-publicized friction between the two former Kiss members. Frehley also talked about how he invited Gene Simmons to be on the new album and why that didn’t happen:
Ace Frehley hits the stage of the Chance in Poughkeepsie just one day after “Origins Vol. 1″ is released. He’s got a new band that includes the Hudson Valley’s own Ritchie Scarlet. Tickets are still available at the Chance website.

Ace Frehley: Five Songs I Wish I Wrote
By Rolling Stone March 28, 2016
Ace Frehley (Matt Furman/Redux)
Ace Frehley's new album, Origins Vol. 1 – due out April 15th – finds him covering songs by Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy and other artists that have inspired him over the years. The LP also features his first recording with Paul Stanley, an impassioned interpretation of Free's "Fire and Water," in nearly two decades (Other guests on the record include Slash, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, Lita Ford and Rob Zombie guitarist John 5). It was fitting then that we recently asked him to pick five songs that he wishes he had written – find out his picks below.
The Who, "My Generation"
It's the first Who song that really grabbed me. I can't think of another rock song where the bassist takes the solo.
Led Zeppelin, "Stairway to Heaven"
This is Jimmy Page at his best. I don't even know how to categorize it. It might be in its own category.
Kiss, "Deuce"
This is the first song that Gene, Paul and Peter played when I walked into the audition. It just grabs your attention right away.
Cream, "White Room"
Cream had a huge influence on my playing. This is a classic wah-wah song. I'd play it on my upcoming tour, but I don't use pedals because I might trip over them.
Thin Lizzy, "Emerald"
This is a real heavy song that just barrels through and has a cool breakdown with dual guitar leads playing the harmony part. It just has an awesome ambience.

Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was interviewed on "The Boris & Robyn Show" on WPDH 101.5 FM in Poughkeepsie, New York. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.
Asked why KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons ended up not appearing on Frehley's upcoming "Origins Vol. 1" collection of covers, Ace said: "Well, I tried calling Gene a couple of times and I got his answering machine. So I shot him a few different texts. I even went as far as to get ahold of Doc McGhee [KISS's manager] and tell Doc to let Gene know I wanted to get ahold of him. And I guess either he didn't get the message or he was just too busy. So I said, 'Well, let me reach to Paul [Stanley, KISS frontman].' I had Paul's cell phone [number] in my phone. I gave him a buzz, and he picked up immediately. And from the outset, he thought it was a great idea and would be a lot of fun. It took a while to choose which song we wanted to do. We were originally thinking about DEREK AND THE DOMINOS' [version of Jimi Hendrix's] 'Little Wing', then we were kicking around maybe 'My Generation' [by THE WHO]. But towards the end of the elimination process, I came up with the idea for [FREE's] 'Fire And Water', and he loved it."
"Origins Vol. 1" will be released on April 15. Other guests are none other than Slash trading leads on THIN LIZZY's classic "Emerald", Lita Ford singing and playing lead on THE TROGGS staple "Wild Thing", ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition "Parasite" for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic", and PEARL JAM's Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS "Alive!" mainstay "Cold Gin". "White Room" is also an iTunes instant gratification track, meaning fans who pre order the LP on iTunes will receive the CREAM cover song instantly.

Kiss members reunite on Ace Frehley’s solo album

Former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley invited the band’s lead singer, Paul Stanley, to appear on his upcoming solo album of covers, “Origins, Vol. 1,” despite some bad blood in the past.
“I was a little apprehensive. I wasn’t sure what the reaction would be,” Frehley told Page Six. But Stanley “picked up his cell on the first ring . . . He said, ‘Ace Frehley! I’d love to be involved!’”
The two then collaborated on a cover of “Fire and Water” by Free.
But the Bronx-born Frehley admits he also tried to get Kiss’ cantankerous bassist Gene Simmons to participate, and, “I tried to get ahold of Gene without any success . . . He didn’t get back to my texts.”
The album comes out April 15, and Frehley plays B.B. King Blues Club on April 11 and 12.

Ace Frehley Wanted Gene Simmons On New Solo Album
By WENN in Music / Festivals on 29 March 2016
Former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley wanted ex-bandmate Gene Simmons to appear on his solo album but he didn't respond to calls or texts.
Frehley, who has had bad blood with Kiss bandmates Simmons and Paul Stanley, pushed aside his differences with Stanley to work on a collaboration for his upcoming covers album Origins, Vol. 1.
The musician tried to get Simmons on the record as well, but his attempts to get in touch with the rocker failed so he took it as a sign Simmons did not want to be involved.
"Well, I tried calling Gene a couple of times and I got his answering machine," he said on The Boris & Robyn Show on New York state's WPDH radio station. "So I shot him a few different texts. I even went as far as to get ahold of Doc MCGhee (KISS's manager) and tell Doc to let Gene know I wanted to get ahold of him. And I guess either he didn't get the message or he was just too busy."
Frehley was initially apprehensive about approaching Stanley about the album, but was surprised when he was positive about the idea, and they eventually recorded a cover of Free's Fire And Water for the record.
"I gave him a buzz, and he picked up immediately," he adds. "And from the outset, he thought it was a great idea and would be a lot of fun. It took a while to choose which song we wanted to do."
Frehley, who left the rock group in 1982, was embroiled in a war of words with Simmons and Stanley in 2014 when the original line-up of KISS, including drummer Peter Criss, were set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but Simmons and Stanley wanted their current KISS bandmates to be honoured too.
Stanley said during a radio interview with KBAD 94.5's Morning Crash show in February (16) that he had no hesitation about working with Frehley because they are still family - despite their arguments.
"Look, for all the bickering and stuff that we may say about each other, we go back to a very magical time. We started this together," he added. "So in spite of whatever we may say from time to time or things that get blown up, we are a family, and a dysfunctional one, but nonetheless a family."
Slash and Lita Ford also appear on Frehley's new album, which is set for release on 15 April (16).

ACE FREHLEY Discusses His Time In KISS - “There Was A Lot Of Crazy Partying Going On Behind The Scenes, And We Drew From Our Experiences When We Wrote Lyrics”
March 29, 2016,
Ahead of the release of his upcoming Origins Vol. 1 album, original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley spoke with Songfacts’ Greg Prato about the new record, his days with KISS, and more. Read an excerpt below:
Songfacts: In KISS, was it ever intimidating to offer a song early on, since Gene (Simmons) and Paul (Stanley) would write so many songs?
Ace: “It was never intimidating. Everybody was receptive to listen to other people's material. I mean, not everything I submitted was used, but KISS in the early days was that magic, that collective thought. The chemistry was right. The timing was right. The idea behind KISS with the make-up and the stage show was right. We were all in the right place at the right time. It was a fun process... for the most part.”
Songfacts: Regarding the song "Shock Me”, I know in the past you said it was inspired from an incident when you were electrocuted on stage during a KISS concert [on December 12, 1976, at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland, Florida]. But I've always thought the lyrics were more of a sexual nature.
Ace: [Laughs] “Isn't every KISS song about sex? What KISS song isn't about sex? Sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Yeah, obviously, there was a lot of crazy partying going on behind the scenes, and we drew from our experiences when we wrote lyrics.”

Ace Frehley will release Origins Vol. 1, a collection of 12 newly recorded classics from his formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll, on April 15th.
On the new album, KISS frontman Paul Stanley joins Ace on Free's hit "Fire And Water”. This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS' 1998 reunion album Psycho Circus.
"White Room”, the classic hit originally performed by Cream, is streaming below. Other guests are none other than Slash trading leads on Thin Lizzy's classic "Emerald”, Lita Ford singing and playing lead on The Troggs staple "Wild Thing”, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition "Parasite" for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic”, and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS Alive! mainstay "Cold Gin”. Ace Frehley on 'ridiculous' idea of Kiss going on with no original members
News / 03302016 / 7 hours ago / by Stef Lach
Former Kiss guitarist says replacing Simmons and Stanley would be a "joke"
Ace Frehley says it's "ridiculous" to consider the idea of Kiss continuing without any original members.
The former Kiss guitarist was replying to previous comments from ex colleague Paul Stanley that the band's characters could outlive him and Gene Simmons and continue performing when they're gone.
Frehley's Spaceman persona was taken over by Tommy Thayer full-time in 2002, while drummer Peter Criss' Catman was handed off to Eric Singer. But Frehley says the idea of Simmons and Stanley being replaced is a non-starter.
He tells WZLX 100.7 (via Blabbermouth): "That's the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard them make. I think the only reason they make those statements at this juncture is to try to validate the fact that they have two other guys in the band that aren't the original members.
"So they're trying to rationalise to the fans, 'Well, you know, we replaced Peter and we replaced Ace, and eventually we're gonna replace ourselves.
"That's like Mick Jagger saying, 'Yeah, after me and Keith die, The Stones will continue on with two other guys.' It's a joke."
Frehley's relationship with Stanley appears to be in better shape than it has been for years, with Stanley having guested on Frehley's upcoming album Origins Vol. 1.
Frehley enjoyed the experience so much that he was moved to say he'd never rule out a potential return to Kiss. Ace Frehley remaining 2016 US tour dates

ACE FREHLEY Says It's 'Ridiculous' To Think KISS Could Continue Without Any Original Members
March 29, 2016 55 Comments
During an interview with the "Karlson & McKenzie" show on Boston's WZLX 100.7 FM radio station, former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was asked about the possibility of the band one day carrying on without any original members, including main songwriter Paul Stanley.
"That's the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard [Stanley and KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons] make," Ace said (hear audio below). "I think the only reason they make those statements at this juncture is to try to validate the fact that they have two other guys in the band that aren't the original members. So they're trying to rationalize to the fans, 'Well, you know, we replaced Peter [Criss, original KISS drummer] and we replaced Ace, and eventually we're gonna replace ourselves. That's like [THE ROLLING STONES singer] Mick Jagger saying, 'Yeah, after me and Keith [Richards, THE ROLLINGS STONES guitarist] die, THE STONES will continue on with two other guys.' I mean, it's a joke."
It was back in 2005 that KISS manager manager Doc McGhee first told the New York Times that the group had "been toying with the idea of recruiting an entire band to... don the band's famous makeup." McGhee said, "KISS is more like Doritos or Pepsi, as far as a brand name is concerned. They're more characters than the individual person. I think (new members) have a legitimate chance to carry the franchise."
Simmons didn't necessarily disagree with that idea. He told Launch that the concept of original members isn't widely held by fans, and it isn't really accurate anyway. "There's no question that there's a core of fans — five-10 percent, my sense is — who believe in original members," he said. "And yet, when you look at original members, THE BEATLES are not original members — Ringo is not an original member; THE [ROLLING] STONES — barely. You know, they've had so many members come and go, but it's the STONES; and AC/DC's aren't original members; and VAN HALEN; and JOURNEY...you go down the list of every — almost every band you can think of."
In a 2012 interview with The San Diego Union-Tribute, Stanley reaffirmed KISS' intention to continue after he and Gene Simmons depart.
"The band is bigger than its members," said Stanley. "And it only takes, in this case, four like-minded people with a similar outlook and talent to further the cause and continue KISS. It makes perfect sense to me. It may not make sense to other bands, but we're not other bands. We don't live by those rules. We never have."

Ace Frehley: KISS Continuing With No Original Members Is a ‘Joke’ By Joe DiVita March 30, 2016 10:40 AM
Ace Frehley (KISS) Michael N. Todaro, Getty Images
Ace Frehley left KISS for the second time in 2000 following one of the band’s numerous farewell tours. The band now consists of mainstays Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as well as replacements for Frehley and original drummer Peter Criss and Stanley has previously gone on record stating he believes KISS can continue beyond his and Gene Simmons’ retirement with new members, though Frehley has a differing opinion.
With a new covers album, Origins Vol. 1, to promote, Frehley has been on the promotional circuit and was featured on Boston’s WZLX 100.7 FM (audio below at 4:15) to discuss the release and answer some questions surrounding KISS. When asked if he can envision a lineup of KISS continuing 30 or 40 years from now, the Spaceman firmly stated, “That’s the most ridiculous statement I’ve ever heard [Stanley] make.”
Frehley continued, “I think the only reason they make those statements at this juncture is to try to validate the fact that they have two other guys in the band that aren’t the original members. So they’re trying to rationalize to the fans, ‘Well, you know, we replaced Peter and we replaced Ace and eventually we’re gonna replace ourselves. That’s like [Rolling Stones singer] Mick Jagger saying, ‘Yeah, after me and Keith [Richards, Rolling Stones guitarist] die, the Stones will continue on with two other guys.’ I mean, it’s a joke.”
Origins Vol. 1 marks the first time Frehley and Stanley have recorded together in almost 20 years with Stanley taking lead vocal on the Free cover of “Fire and Water.” The album will be out April 15 and fans can place pre-orders here and will receive and instant gratification download of the Cream cover, “White Room.” Ace will be wrapping his current tour up on April 12 and a list of stops can be seen at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.

Hear Ace Frehley’s Cover of Thin Lizzy’s ‘Emerald': Exclusive Premiere
By Jeff Giles April 1, 2016 11:00 AM
Ace Frehley fans get an early taste of his upcoming Origins, Vol. 1 covers album with this exclusive premiere of Frehley’s take on Thin Lizzy‘s “Emerald.”
As previously reported, Frehley is paying tribute to some of his favorite acts on Origins — a collection that, as he put it, revisits “stuff from bands that I grew up on and greatly influenced me.” Artists covered by the former Kiss guitarist include Cream, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix.
The album, due April 15 and available for pre-order now, also features a number of guest appearances from famous friends, including Slash (who contributed to “Emerald”) and Frehley’s former bandmate Paul Stanley, who chipped in on a cover of Free‘s “Fire and Water.”
In addition to songs by some of his favorite artists, Frehley revisited his own back catalog for Origins, Vol. 1, recording new versions of the Kiss cuts “Parasite,” “Cold Gin,” and “Rock and Roll Hell.” “I’m really thrilled with the whole thing,” he told Rolling Stone. “I’m excited about it, and probably somewhere down the road there’ll be a second volume.”
Frehley is supporting Origins, Vol. 1 with a round of tour dates that’s currently scheduled to continue through mid-April. Visit his official site for ticketing information, including details of special VIP packages that include meet-and-greets where Frehley is signing fans’ guitars.
Next up for Frehley is further work on his next memoir, which he told Las Vegas Magazine that he hopes to finish before the end of the year. “I’m always writing notes down, because during the course of the day invariably a story will pop into my head that I have to jot down on a piece of paper so I won’t forget it, because there’s just so many stories,” he said. “I’ve lived such a colorful life I could probably write five books.”

April 1, 2016 8 Comments
Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley will release "Origins Vol. 1", a collection of twelve newly recorded classics from Ace's formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll, on April 15. Most notably, KISS frontman Paul Stanley joins Ace on FREE's hit "Fire And Water". This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS's 1998 reunion album "Psycho Circus".
"Origins Vol. 1" track listing:
01. White Room (CREAM) 02. Street Fighting Man (ROLLING STONES) 03. Spanish Castle Magic (JIMI HENDRIX) (feat. John 5) 04. Fire And Water (FREE) (feat. Paul Stanley) 05. Emerald (THIN LIZZY) (feat. Mike McCready) 11. Till The End Of The Day (THE KINKS) 12. Rock And Roll Hell (KISS)
Ace's cover version of THIN LIZZY's "Emerald", featuring a guest appearance by Slash, can be streamed below.
Ace spoke with Rolling Stone about the new record, his guest players and recording with Paul after all these years. Regarding his reunion with Stanley, Frehley shrugged off any residual tension between the two of them. "We've always been friends," he told Rolling Stone. "The press seems to amplify negativity. I guess it makes good copy."
Frehley also commented on Stanley's appearance on "Fire And Water". "I thought Paul did a fabulous vocal on it," he said. "He jumped at the chance to do this because it's something that’s outside of KISS and his character in KISS, and it gave him a chance to, you know, sing. With Paul, you usually think of him singing in a slightly higher register and on 'Fire And Water', he's singing deep from his diaphragm, and it's a real cool vocal. Everyone who's heard it just thinks it's the shit."
Ace will be joined on the road by Richie Scarlet (rhythm, guitar and vocal duties), Chris Wyse (THE CULT) on bass and vocals, Scott Coogan (BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION) on drums.
