Ace Frehley – Feldolgozásalbum Paul Stanley-vel! Dzsó, 2016, február 22 - 13:02
" />
(A lemez White Room feldolgozásán Scott Coogan, Frehley dobosa vokálozik.)
Nyoma sincs a nézeteltéréseknek Paul Stanley-vel, Ace így kommentálta mindezt: „Mindig is jó barátok voltunk, a sajtó mindig rátesz egy lapáttal a hírekre, láttunk már ilyet máskor is.” Mindketten nagy Free-rajongók és a Fire & Water az 1970-es ’All Right Now’ LP nyitódala, amit Frehley a 70-es évek óta fel akart dolgozni.
A többi közreműködő szerepe is érdekes. „Elképesztett John 5 játéka, kölcsönösen inspiráltuk egymást, működött a kémia.”
Az új lemez felvezetése megkezdődött, első kislemezként már a múlt héttől kapható az iTunes-nál a White Room 1,29 $-ért, de 18 állomásos USA turné is indul február 27-én a texasi Houstonban a következő felállással: Ace + Richie Scarlet - gitár, vokál, Chris Wyse (The Cult) – basszus, vokál, Scott Coogan (Nikki Sixx’s Brides Of Destruction) - dobok.

JOHN 5 On Working Up KISS Classic “Parasite” For ACE FREHLEY’s New Album - “Fans Will Love This Version”
In a new interview with Robert Cavuoto for MyGlobalMind.com, guitarist John 5 discusses his upcoming album and tours, and working with Ace Frehley and David Lee Roth. An excerpt follows:
Q: You play on Ace Frehley’s new CD, what songs did you play and how did the opportunity come about?
John 5: “I have known the KISS guys for most of my adult life and really close to Peter Criss. He is one of my great friends. I have known Ace for ever too. Ace called me up and said, ‘Would you come and play on my record?’ I said, ‘Of course!’ He gave me a bunch of songs to learn then texted me a few days later and said we are going to do “Parasite”. I was like ‘YES, how rad is that, to play “Parasite” with Ace!’ I also played “Bad Castle Magic” – one of Hendrix’s songs. I love spending time with Ace, he such a great guy and super cool. We get along really well.”
Q: Did you play “Parasite” true to the original or did you change it up a bit?
John 5: “”Here is what happened, we are playing the song and I started improvising. Then Ace said, ‘I’ll improvise after you.’ I then said ‘why don’t you just play the solo as is as it’s such a memorable piece of music?’ He played it exactly how it was created in one take. Fans will love this version.”

Did Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley KISS and Make Up?

Original KISS members Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley have not been on the best of terms in recent years. The two have trashed each other through the press, with Stanley, who is Jewish (as is Gene Simmons) going so far as to claim that Frehley is anti-Semitic in his autobiography, Face the Music: A Life Exposed, a claim that Frehley has vehemently denied. Frehley has repeatedly expressed anger over current KISS lead guitarist Tommy Thayer dressing up in his "Spaceman" outfit and makeup while performing live; the original KISS lead guitarist has said that some fans have told him they saw KISS in concert in recent years and thought it was him performing with the band instead of Thayer, which could be understandably frustrating.
Along with many KISS fans, Frehley was also disappointed that the original KISS lineup could not set aside their personal differences and perform at their 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction. Original KISS drummer Peter Criss currently remains estranged from Stanley and Gene Simmons, who have both repeatedly bashed both Criss and Frehley for their past alcohol and drug abuse while they were members of KISS. Ace Frehley Makes KISS Army Wait for It at Scout Bar Monday Night: Ace Frehley at Meridian
Apparently Frehley and Stanley have kissed and made up, though, as surprising as that sounds with all of the animosity the two have demonstrated towards each other in the past. Stanley has recorded vocals on a song for Ace’s new album called Origins Vol. 1, which is scheduled to be released on April 15 and features a collection of cover songs from artists that inspired Frehley throughout the years. It should be noted, however, that Starchild and Space Ace did not record in the same studio together. Frehley and his band recorded the music for "Fire and Water," a song by English classic-rock band Free, and mailed it to Stanley, who then recorded his vocals and sent them back. Will these baby steps lead to Ace rejoining KISS in the future? Only time will tell, but in the meantime he returns to Houston to perform at Scout Bar this Friday; hopefully Ace will not keep the KISS Army waiting this time, like the last time he played the venue. In December of 2014, he initially angered many in attendance by not going onstage until 11:30 p.m. on a Tuesday night. Frehley also talked a little trash about his former KISS bandmates at that show; in particular, after the performance of "Strutter" with drummer Scot Coogan on vocals, Ace exclaimed, "You sing that shit like Paul used to sing it!" It seems as though Ace has a better opinion of Stanley’s vocal prowess now, at least for the performance he recorded for "Fire and Water," which Frehley has praised.
Ace also recorded cover versions of songs with other guests on Origins Vol. 1, including The Troggs’ "Wild Thing,” with Lita Ford on vocals; Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic” and a remake of KISS’s “Parasite” with Rob Zombie guitarist John 5; Thin Lizzy’s “Emerald” with Slash on guitar; and a remake of KISS’s “Cold Gin” with Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready. Ace also covered classics from Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf and The Kinks for the LP. His last album, Space Invader, was well received; released in August 2014, it debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, making it the guitarist's highest-charting album ever.
Ace Frehley performs at Scout Bar on Friday, February 26 with local supporting bands Tame Fury, Smokin Aces, and Love and War; doors open at 7 p.m.

Aces his ‘Origins’ on current tour - East Valley Tribune: Get Out

Ace Frehley seems to be in a good place these days. He’s happy, healthy and playing guitar better than ever, and after 14 years of being ignored, his former band Kiss was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in April 2014. In a recent telephone interview with GetOut, Frehley was eager to discuss the new leg of his current tour, which makes its way to Tempe on Wednesday, March 2, at the Marquee Theatre.
In some ways, he could still continue to tour behind his 2014 album Space Invader. However, in point of fact, he’s actually preparing to release a new album entitled Origins Vol. 1 on April 15. Many guests are featured throughout the album such as Slash, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, and Lita Ford to name a few. The first single is his interpretation of the 1968 Cream classic White Room that premiered on Rolling Stone.com earlier this month.
“When I started thinking about this project during the ‘Space Invader’ sessions, one of the first bands I wanted to pay homage to for this album was Cream, who I was lucky enough to see as an opening act in 1967. It was their first New York appearance at the time. Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels headlined while Cream and The Who opened. It was incredible,” Frehley recalled.
“When we hit Tempe, I’m hoping we can play at least two songs from ‘Origins’ since it won’t be out until April. We’ll take a couple of days to rehearse throughout this month and see what we come up with.”
Frehley’s current touring band includes Scot Coogan on drums and Chris Wyse on bass, along with longtime off-and-on guitarist Richie Scarlet rounding out the lineup.
“I have to admit we’re going to need a little more practice on ‘White Room’ before we play it live. I’ll have to use a wah-wah (guitar) pedal for that one,” he said.
Referring to the tour, Frehley said that fans can expect a decent amount of solo material from throughout his career as well as a healthy dose of songs from his days in Kiss. The latter is inevitable unquestionably, yet Frehley wouldn’t have it any other way. To that end, I asked him if there are any songs that he’s been wanting to play live but for whatever reason hasn’t. (Either solo or with Kiss.)
“Truthfully, not really,” he said. “I just try to do a bit of everything. We tend to play about 20 songs on any given night. I sing lead vocals and so does our bassist Scot Coogan. Some songs like ‘Cold Gin’ and ‘Shock Me’ (both Kiss) have to be played, as you may know. New York Groove is also mandatory,” Frehley said, referring to the lone hit single from his 1978 solo album.
(To jog the memory a little, many of you reading this probably remember that the original members of Kiss (Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Frehley, and Peter Criss) simultaneously released four solo albums in September 1978. True to their marketing savvy at the time, they were also released under the Kiss moniker clearly as a safety net of sorts. As a result, it can be rightly argued that these were and are, for all intents and purposes, Kiss albums.)
It would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge that the first Kiss album (and still their best, truth be told) was released 42 years ago this month in 1974.
“Has it really been that long? I actually remember going into a record store in the Bronx (Frehley’s hometown) and buying it the day it came out. I was so happy, it was very surreal. I had finally made my own album. We had also begun our very first tour. As (Kiss vocalist/rhythm guitarist) Paul Stanley always says to this day, it was a magical time for us,” he said.
As Frehley was going down memory lane, it gave me an opportunity to ask him about a crucial figure within Kiss’ history; their original manager Bill Aucoin. To the point, it has been said by many fans and industry people alike that Kiss would have never become the success story they did without Aucoin at the helm. Is that a fair assessment?
“That’s a great question, and honestly, you might be right on that. Actually, both Bill and Neil Bogart (founder of Kiss’ original record label Casablanca Records) really believed in the band at a time when most industry people thought Kiss were a joke and would never amount to anything. Without question, we were fortunate with the way they orchestrated our career as time went on. Frankly, you’ll never see people like them (Aucoin and Bogart) in the industry today.”
Or rather, what’s left of it shall we say?
With Frehley’s continuing solo career and Kiss’ legacy intact, he still remains grateful and humbled that fans have remained so loyal to him for four decades. We asked him if he’s familiar with some of the online presence of video podcasts like 3 Sides of the Coin or fan forums like KissFAQ that continue to spread the word and world of Kiss.
“I’m aware of some of them, although there are so many of those forums that I’ve lost count,” he said with his infamous cackle. “Yes, it’s very flattering because most of them follow all of our careers. It’s nothing less than gratifying.”

Fan-filmed video footage of original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley performing on February 27 at Fitzgerald's Bar & Live Music in San Antonio, Texas can be seen below.
Frehley will release "Origins Vol. 1", a collection of twelve newly recorded classics from Ace's formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll, on April 15. Most notably, KISS frontman Paul Stanley joins Ace on FREE's hit "Fire And Water". This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS's 1998 reunion album "Psycho Circus". Other guests are none other than Slash trading leads on THIN LIZZY's classic "Emerald", Lita Ford singing and playing lead on THE TROGGS staple "Wild Thing", ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition "Parasite" for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic", and PEARL JAM's Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS "Alive!" mainstay "Cold Gin". "White Room" is also an iTunes instant gratification track, meaning fans who pre order the LP on iTunes will receive the CREAM cover song instantly.
Ace spoke with Rolling Stone about the new record, his guest players and recording with Paul after all these years. Regarding his reunion with Stanley, Frehley shrugged off any residual tension between the two of them. "We've always been friends," he told Rolling Stone. "The press seems to amplify negativity. I guess it makes good copy."
Frehley also commented on Stanley's appearance on "Fire And Water". "I thought Paul did a fabulous vocal on it," he said. "He jumped at the chance to do this because it's something that’s outside of KISS and his character in KISS, and it gave him a chance to, you know, sing. With Paul, you usually think of him singing in a slightly higher register and on 'Fire And Water', he's singing deep from his diaphragm, and it's a real cool vocal. Everyone who's heard it just thinks it's the shit."
