Watch Ace Frehley and Lita Ford Tell ‘Epic Rock Tales’ By Dave Lifton March 7, 2016 4:51 PM
A new animated web series finds rockers telling stories from their wild past. Our sister site Loudwire has created Epic Rock Tales, with Ace Frehley and Lita Ford featuring in the first few episodes.
In the video above, Frehley – whose covers album, Origins Vol. 1, is coming out on April 15 – recounts a day back when he was in Kiss. He woke up in Canada, had dinner in Texas and then flew to Mexico City in time for the next night’s concert. While in the lobby of his hotel in Mexico, he sees “this really cute Mexican model, and she had blonde hair, [which is] very rare in Mexico — most of the women have dark hair. So I invite her up to my room.” What starts off sounding like it’s going to be a typical rock star encounter with a groupie then takes a surreal turn.
Ford’s story, on the other hand starts off with a bizarre premise: Ozzy Osbourne having Easter dinner at her parents’ house. Because who better to help celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ than the self-proclaimed Prince of Darkness? Ford begins by describing the sight of neighbors surprised to see Osbourne’s limousine riding down a suburban street. Once inside the house, it all goes pear-shaped.
After being poured a glass of wine by Ford’s mother, Ozzy takes the bottle and begins chugging away, sinking lower and lower into his chair. Then it comes time for the meal, where Ford’s father makes the mistake of giving Osbourne the honor of carving the roast leg of lamb with an electric knife. Watch the clip above to find out what happened next.
New episodes of Epic Rock Tales will be available every Monday at 12PM Eastern over at Loudwire’s YouTube page.

ACE FREHLEY: Quality Footage Of Beverly Hills Concert

Heavy Metal Greg has uploaded video footage of original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley's March 5 concert at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California. Check out the clips below.
Frehley will release "Origins Vol. 1", a collection of twelve newly recorded classics from Ace's formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll, on April 15. Most notably, KISS frontman Paul Stanley joins Ace on FREE's hit "Fire And Water". This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS's 1998 reunion album "Psycho Circus". Other guests are none other than Slash trading leads on THIN LIZZY's classic "Emerald", Lita Ford singing and playing lead on THE TROGGS staple "Wild Thing", ROB ZOMBIE guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition "Parasite" for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic", and PEARL JAM's Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS "Alive!" mainstay "Cold Gin". "White Room" is also an iTunes instant gratification track, meaning fans who pre order the LP on iTunes will receive the CREAM cover song instantly.
Ace spoke with Rolling Stone about the new record, his guest players and recording with Paul after all these years. Regarding his reunion with Stanley, Frehley shrugged off any residual tension between the two of them. "We've always been friends," he told Rolling Stone. "The press seems to amplify negativity. I guess it makes good copy."
Frehley also commented on Stanley's appearance on "Fire And Water". "I thought Paul did a fabulous vocal on it," he said. "He jumped at the chance to do this because it's something that’s outside of KISS and his character in KISS, and it gave him a chance to, you know, sing. With Paul, you usually think of him singing in a slightly higher register and on 'Fire And Water', he's singing deep from his diaphragm, and it's a real cool vocal. Everyone who's heard it just thinks it's the shit."

In a recent video shot for British guitar magazine Total Guitar, the original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley took the time to do a quick rundown of one of the guitars from the original run of his Gibson Les Paul Custom signature series.
In the video, Frehley points out a couple of extremely limited edition features that only came with the first run of twelve guitars, including a special Ace Frehley signature inlay and a depiction of his original KISS make-up on the headstock. Watch the full video here.
The former KISS guitarist is set to release a new album Origins Vol.1 this April, featuring covers of songs by artists that have inspired him over the years. The new album, due on April 15, features guest contributions from Frehley’s former KISS bandmate Paul Stanley as well as Slash, Lita Ford, John 5 (Marilyn Manson/Rob Zombie) and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready.

Frehley Gives Ace Performance in Career Retrospective
Brooklyn Bowl, March 6 concertsMonday, March 7 3:15pm By Sean DeFrank
As a Kiss fan dating to the mid-’70s, the notion of seeing Ace Frehley in concert some 40 years later is something I would never have been able to wrap my mind around as a kid. But the 64-year-old founding Kiss guitarist hit Brooklyn Bowl as part of his 11-date U.S. tour amid a surprising late-career resurgence.
Now nine years sober, the former Spaceman was in top form throughout the 15-song set list as he guided his band through Kiss classics such as “Parasite” and “Cold Gin,” along with solo favorites like “Snowblind” and “New York Groove.”
While Frehley, who left Kiss for the second time in 2002, handled much of the vocal duties on his old band’s songs, drummer Scot Coogan took the lead on “Love Gun” and “Detroit Rock City,” while bassist Chris Wyse sang “Strange Ways.” Guitarist Richie Scarlet provided strong accompaniment to Frehley, especially during the dual-ax attack of Thin Lizzy’s “Emerald” from Frehley’s upcoming all-cover album.
Frehley especially shined during blistering solos on “Shock Me” and show closer “Deuce,” showing that even after years of playing with a loaded deck, this Ace can still deliver a winning hand. ★★★☆☆

Review: Ace Frehley rips it up at Saban Theater
March 7, 2016 4:20 PM MST
Ace Frehley at Saban Theater Credit: Elliot Levin LA Hard Rock Examiner
Guitar legend Ace Frehley crushed the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills on Saturday night, packing in fans for an ear-blasting rock n’ roll assault of KISS classics and Ace solo favorites, played louder than hell and shouted out loud by all in attendance.
Opening the night was Lita Ford, no rock newbie herself. The Queen of Heavy Metal unleashed a tight and vicious set that paid ode to all eras of her music, throwing back to her ‘80s roots with Gotta Let Go and Blueberry, as well as an Elton John cover of The Bitch Is Back.
Lita was absolutely on top of her game, singing powerfully and rocking her bright yellow Mockingbird guitar on both rhythm and lead. Her riffs crunched and her solos sizzled, overpowering the Saban Theater in waves of ear-blasting distortion. Her band crunched along behind her, hitting a peak on new song Living Like A Runaway, also the title of her new autobiography - read my fascinating interview with Lita from last month right here.
Lita’s set finished with a one-two-three punch of The Runaways’ first single, Cherry Bomb, then Close My Eyes Forever, with Ozzy’s vocals provided by guitarist Patrick Kennison for the night’s most moving moments, and finished with a high-powered Kiss Me Deadly to close the hourlong set. The audience rose to their feet and rushed the stage like it was still the Whiskey a Go Go in 1984 as Lita wailed away on her guitar, rock n’ roll to the very core.
But it was Ace’s name atop the marquee outside, and the Spaceman absolutely delivered all that fans could want. Bouncing between KISS favorites and solo hits, he crunched through Rip It Out, Toys and Parasite before one of the night’s greatest moments, the always-awesome Love Gun. Drummer Scot Coogan handled Paul Stanley’s high octave vocals, leaving aviator-rocking Ace free to burn his way up and down the fretboard for the song’s lead guitar blitzkrieg.
Other highlights of Ace’s set included the speedy Snowblind, anthemic Rock Soldiers, and another KISS classic with Shock Me. Ace’s usual smoke bombs and strobing guitars offered fans a hint of the over-the-top KISS production without dipping into Gene and Paul’s usual cheese, making the guitar playing and riffs the focal point of the evening but still fully delivering on entertainment value.
In many ways, the show was reminiscent of the Megadeth concert that just hit LA last weekend at the Palladium (read Examiner Natalia Britt’s review here). Both shows featured guitar gods with colorfully troubled pasts, now clean and sober and touring from city to city to play guitar for lifelong fans as well as those first discovering their music. While the Megadeth crowd was perhaps a bit more rowdy, Ace’s fans held their own as he encored with Detroit Rock City and Deuce, once again bringing the crowd to their feet for the pure KISS music and none of the makeup.
Ace’s new album of covers, Origins Vol 1, hits shelves on April 15 and might be the best possible way to spend your tax refund. Featuring collaborations with Paul Stanley, Slash, and his tourmate Lita Ford, the guitarist delivers his own take on classic tracks from Cream, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and so many more, and is the best option to scratch your Ace-itch until the Spaceman returns to town again.

Ace Frehley takes Alamo City on classic rocket ride through space continuum
Jay Nanda - AXS Contributor By: Jay Nanda AXS Contributor Mar 8, 2016 2 days ago
A spaceman and an emperor walked into a bar . . .
No punchline needed, however, for that was no joke Feb. 27 at Fitzgerald's in San Antonio. That's because the "Original Spaceman," former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, brought his solo band to the Alamo City for the second time in 15 months, filling the bar to the brim and the audience's ears with KISS classics plus offerings from his older and newer solo material, with dashes of Frehley's Comet.
Backed by guitarist Richie "The Emperor of Rock N' Roll" Scarlet, bassist Chris Wyse of his own band Owl as well as The Cult, and with veteran drummer Scot Coogan channeling his inner Paul Stanley on a few KISS cuts, Frehley spanned the bulk of his legendary career for roughly 510 people in an ever-expanding bar that could barely fit 100 in January.
Scheduled to play from 10-11:30 p.m., Frehley instead conducted his meet-and-greet for VIP-paying customers on his bus after the final local support act had finished playing. A line of fans who shelled out $275 to get items signed and pose for pictures with the guitarist or $500 to get Frehley's autograph on a guitar got their money's worth as the throng inside the bar began to get restless. That all changed at 10:52 p.m. as Frehley and Co. took to the stage with a pair of tunes from his 2014 album Space Invader: "Toys" and "Gimme a Feelin.' "
And that would do it for the newer material.
Frehley busted out "Rocket Ride" for the third song of the evening, although, like the first two tunes, it was played slower than what can be heard on Side 4 of the 1978 KISS Alive II original recording. But things picked up as the KISS classics kept coming with "Parasite" and Coogan's first chance of the night to sing lead vocals as he did the honors on "Love Gun." Frehley then took fans back to his 1978 solo album, when all four members of KISS unveiled their solo side simultaneously on vinyl and cassette, performing "Snow Blind" (see setlist in slideshow above).
In addition to Space Invader, Frehley is touring in support of the forthcoming April 15 release of covers CD Origins: Vol. 1. He made shockwaves within the rock world by revealing that he recorded one of those covers, Free's 1970 tune "Fire and Water," with none other than Stanley, marking their first joint recording since KISS' 1998 Psycho Circus. But the only cover Frehley offered up this evening was Thin Lizzy's "Emerald." He bypassed his lead-vocal KISS rendition of Rolling Stones' "2000 Man."
Of course, Frehley busted out his smoke-guitar solo after "Shock Me," telling the crowd he was "still smokin' after all these years." His Frehley's Comet highlight was "Rock Soldiers," the 1987 MTV "Headbangers Ball" hit that served as an autobiographical tale of his alcoholic difficulties from the early '80s that had contributed to his departure from KISS. The lyrics could also have served as an explanation of sorts for the fact Frehley had "San Antonio, TX" taped to the stage near the setlist, which was accompanied by the lyric sheet to his 2009 solo song "Sister." But in Frehley's defense, he didn't come close to looking at the lyric sheet as he sang the tune.
Wyse, who discussed playing in Frehley's band as well as in Owl and The Cult with AXS prior to Frehley's visit in December 2014 (more here), received his turn to sing on the Spaceman's 1974 lead-vocal "Strange Ways." Scarlet, meanwhile, displayed his sweaty and lively energy as Frehley's right-hand man on guitar all evening. He introduced 1989 song "2 Young 2 Die" by recalling that the tune was written by Frehley, the late KISS drummer Eric Carr and himself. Scarlet dedicated it by saying, "He wasn't too young, but he was a hero of mine: David Bowie."
Frehley provided a good mix of 18 songs from throughout his career while properly emphasizing his costume-and-makeup era from "the hottest band in the world." He also ruffled some feathers when he said, "The audience was a little rowdier last night (in Houston). You're not going to let them show you up, are you?"
While it would've been unexpectedly pleasant to hear him toss out 1980s "Talk to Me" or "Into the Void" from Psycho Circus, Frehley's greatest omission came from a tune that was scheduled to be the third and final encore. After Coogan sang "Detroit Rock City" and the band shined on 'Deuce," the group took a bow and departed at 12:27 a.m., even though "Cold Gin" had been slated to end the night in ideal fashion. The lights in the bar hadn't even turned back on, yet some fans could be heard murmuring, "He didn't do 'Cold Gin.' "
Nevertheless, Frehley is a musician for whom the metal community can be grateful that he's still doing his thing on stage. Not only is Frehley refusing to live off his past, even though he has every right to do so considering his yesteryear was stamped in one of the most revered bands in music history. But considering his excessive binging in that past, Frehley could have suffered long ago the same fate that befell Jimi Hendrix, Bon Scott and many other legendary Rock N' Rollers within the landscape of American music.
Instead, Frehley is more than alive. He's still kicking. The "Original Spaceman" and his band may have walked into a San Antonio bar on the final Saturday in February. But they rocked out. Sponsor
