Message From Bruce
- April 26, 2016
Bruce KulickI just returned from an exciting weekend in Stockholm, Sweden. It was a very long trip from LA just for a few days, but it was worth it to see my friends and fans in Scandinavia.
My first full day, Friday, started with a photo session for a popular Swedish artist, Robert Haglund, followed by some radio interviews and a long video interview for a TV show on KISS. All of that was done at the famous studio ABBA recorded at, so I enjoyed the historic nature of the setting. After that I did a quick guitar session for some friends, then rehearsed with my backing band for the expo, some of them friends of mine from many years ago and UNION tours of Sweden.
But the big day was Saturday. The KISS Expo was professionally presented and arranged by some die hard KISS fans in Sweden. There was a special meet and greet I did for the VIP ticket, and that was fun talking and meeting those fans one on one. I took photos with them, signed items and even did a hand print for one fan that he had in a frame. That's a first!
Bruce KulickThe expo featured a 90-minute interview of me conducted by Alex Bergdahl, who is an uber KISS fan and especially well informed on my era of KISS. He took the crowd and me deep into the Asylum era of the band with thoughtful questions and a slideshow behind me to spark my memory. We ended with a rare video of the band live from an Asylum show, and I was freaked out by how many flashbacks I had from 30 years ago!
Next was the performance with my Swedish friends. It wasn't a long set, but I enjoyed playing "Unholy," "Turn On The Night," "Hell or High Water," "Domino," "Parasite," "I Walk Alone," and "Tears Are Falling," ending with the hit "Crazy Nights." It was a very crazy night indeed! I was so thrilled I couldn't even sleep before my early trip home to LA via a stop in Heathrow.
Like I said in my interview on Friday for Swedish television, every day of my life is touched by my 12 years in the band. Because of the worldwide fame of KISS and the passionate fans everywhere, it is something that seems to continue to grow. The weekend in Sweden proved that many miles away people love my era and are willing to come celebrate it, like the many Star Wars fans enjoy their conventions. I am very thankful for my fans' support, and I hope they enjoyed the event as much as I did.
Bruce Kulick
Thank you all at KISSIN Time and the KISS Army fans in Sweden. Thanks to Mats and all in the guys in the band for working so hard on backing me. Thanks to all my friends who live and work in Sweden. They are a part of my life even here in LA. It's a small world after all, isn't it!
All the best,
Bruce Kulick
PS - Thanks to Mattias Lindhs/Lindhs Grafiska for the clinic photo.

New BK's Guitar of the Week—Here's my number one baby. Lots of history with this guitar. Originally a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop made in approximately ’53 with the trapeze tailpiece, she was converted to '59 specs in the '70s and given a bad sunburst finish. My brother traded something cool plus cash for it on 48th street knowing it was very special. He did some recording and touring with it, and during that time Eastern Airlines gave it a thin crack in the heel, sadly. Ouch! In time, after the repair, he wanted to unload it and I bought it from him. It was refinished perfectly by the famous Tom Murphy at Gibson in the early '90s after Paul Stanley told me to make it look right. It originally only had one PAF, but I found a neck PAF to compliment the rarer double white pickup. The stop bridge and tunematic all are era correct. She was re-fretted years ago by Joe Pichkur from Long Island with medium jumbos. The inlays were so fragile toward the top of the fingerboard he had to mosaic them. The guitar plays so smoothly, sounds so perfect, and I'll give you a perfect example of it. Listen to the solo on "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll To You II" from Revenge. It's also a brilliant rhythm guitar. So many great things can be said about this beauty from the golden era of Gibson's magical '50s guitar

Video: Ex-KISS Guitarist BRUCE KULICK Performs National Anthem During LA KISS Game
Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick performed America's national anthem Saturday night (May 28) when Arena Football League team LA KISS played host to the Portland Steel at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. LA KISS co-owners and Kulick's former bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were both in attendance at the event.
Video footage of Kulick's rendition can be seen below. Check out photos at California Rock News.
In 1984, Bruce joined KISS, where he remained as their lead guitarist for twelve years, accompanying the band on the "Animalize" tour and continuing with the band until the 1996 reunion tour. Bruce is heavily featured on "Kissology – Vol. 2" and "Vol. 3", the band's DVDs spanning their historic 40-year career.
Speaking about his time in KISS, Kulick told California Rock News: "KISS is one of those bands that the whole world knows, and usually, people that aren't really a fan will only think of makeup as KISS, because that's what, of course, made them famous and they've been back in that for so many years. But a real fan knows there's a whole wealth of material — over a decade of years that are non-makeup, which is… I kind of wave the flag for all of that."
He continued: "If you, for example, didn't know there was a makeup KISS, and there wouldn't have been a version for me to join if it wasn't for the makeup KISS, but the truth is… When I was in the band, we kept it going, we had hits, we had gold, platinum records, toured the world — arenas, the whole thing… But I find, even with them continuing, and they turn on new generations of fans. So they… For instance, they were in Japan not that long ago, and now they're going to South America, and now I'm seeing a lot of people following me on Twitter and Facebook [from] South America. In Japan, I picked up all these fans that started following me, 'cause [KISS recently] went to Japan. And they did something very smart in Japan, where they kind of were doing gigs with a very popular pop group of little Japanese women. And that was really interesting, even though it looks odd. But it exposed KISS, and what KISS represents, and everything about KISS' music and the vibe of KISS to a whole another generation."
Kulick added: "I noticed I'm getting all these tweets from fans over there… It's written in Japanese letters; I don't know what it is. I go, 'Why would a 15-year-old know about me?' But, again, it's because [KISS is] out there. KISS is one of those bands that you just keep sharing, the same way, I'm sure… Now AC/DC is coming out with a new record and everything, and they're gonna be touring, so there'll be new 15-year-olds that will [go], 'Oh my God! AC/DC. This is amazing.' And that's what's great about the kind of music that I grew up with."

Former Kiss Guitarist Bruce Kulick Plays “Star-Spangled Banner” at LA Kiss Game
BY Christopher Scapelliti June 1, 2016
Former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the LA Kiss game against the Portland Steel on May 28, and LA Kiss co-owners Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were in attendance. The game was held at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Kulick became the fourth lead guitarist in Kiss when he replaced Mark St. John in 1984. He stayed with the band until 1996, during which time he recorded Asylum, Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade, Revenge, Alive III, Kiss Unplugged, and Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions.
Prior to joining Kiss, Kulick knew the band through his brother, Bob, a session guitarist who had originally auditioned for the group’s lead guitar spot in 1973. Bruce spoke extensively about his time with Kiss in a recent interview with Joel Gausten.
“It was kind of funny; I didn't really know how they worked together as a band,” he recalls. “I had a little bit of a taste of working with Paul in the studio, because I did some of the ghost guitar work on [1984’s] Animalize. I never actually worked in the studio with Gene [before Asylum]. I saw them one time [in the studio] when they were doing Creatures of the Night, because my brother and I visited.
“My job as the lead guitarist was, look, I knew they were the principal creators of Kiss. Not to take anything away from Ace and Peter [Criss], but you know that Gene and Paul were always really the driving forces in the band. They really had a vision for a rock band that could be huge, and they succeeded. I was just going to basically do my job.”
