Le guitariste original de KISS, Ace Frehley, mixe actuellement son nouvel album studio pour une sortie provisoire début 2024 via MNRK Music Group (anciennement connu sous le nom d'eOne Music). Steve Brown de TRIXTER a aidé le musicien de 72 ans dans l'écriture et la production du nouveau LP, qui a utilisé son Instagram plus tôt dans la journée (vendredi 22 septembre) pour partager une photo de lui et Frehley, avec le producteur et l'ingénieur du son. et le mixeur Bruno Ravel, surtout connu pour son rôle de bassiste dans DANGER DANGER. Steve a écrit dans un message d'accompagnement : "C'est une équipe Rockin' ici. 8 morceaux mixés et ça sonne stellaire @brunoravel mix/master général pour le nouveau @acefrehleyofficial @mnrk_heavy #recordingstudio #mixengineer #acefrehley #newalbum… et ouais, je' Je suis vraiment petit à côté de ces gars-là".

Frehley a parlé du processus d'enregistrement de son nouvel album en mars dernier lors d'une apparition sur "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" de SiriusXM. À l'époque, il s'émerveillait de la quantité de matériel qu'il était capable de terminer, déclarant : "En six jours, j'avais écrit et enregistré cinq nouvelles chansons, ce qui est sans précédent pour moi."

Ace a poursuivi en disant qu'il travaillait également sur son nouvel album avec Peppy Castro du BLUES MAGOOS. Il a ajouté : "Dans les années 60, [les BLUES MAGOOS] ont eu le grand succès '(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet'. J'ai grandi avec lui dans le Bronx. Il m'a inspiré à devenir une rock star. Je me souviens d'être allé à Orchard Beach dans le Bronx, et tout d'un coup j'entends la chanson de Peppy à la radio. Je dis : "Jésus-Christ. S'il peut faire ça, je peux le faire. Je suis plus belle que lui." [Rires] En fait, il m'a appris à jouer des accords barrés dans le sous-sol d'un immeuble… Mais depuis, nous sommes amis et nous avons suivi la carrière de chacun. Et il est venu dans mon studio une demi-douzaine de fois. Et il m'a également mis en contact avec Tommy Denander. Il a écrit trois chansons pour moi et je vais probablement en réarranger au moins une ou deux et ajouter du chant. Mais Steve et moi faisons une chanson par jour. C'est de la folie. "

Selon Ace, son prochain LP comprendra au moins une reprise.

"Si ma mémoire est bonne, les deux derniers disques studio que j'ai réalisés comportaient tous deux une pochette et un instrument", a-t-il déclaré. "J'ai deux ou trois chansons qui peuvent être instrumentales ou je pourrais y ajouter des paroles. Je suis juste en train de décider laquelle sera la meilleure pour un instrumental, parce que si je ne fais pas d'instrumental, mes fans vont soyez contrarié, car chacun de mes albums studio contenait un morceau instrumental. Tout a commencé avec « Fractured Mirror » en 1978. »

Peppy a déjà collaboré avec le bassiste/chanteur de KISS Gene Simmons en tant qu'auteur-compositeur et a joué sur les disques solo de Frehley et du leader de KISS, Paul Stanley.

Il me tarde de l'écouter, en espérant que les compositions soient bien d'ace... de nos jours bons nombres de musiciens achètent des morceaux et ont juste à poser leurs voix

Depuis 2021-2022 qu'il parle de cette album, il avait déjà quelques compositions... Je pense justement que c'est la raison, expliquée dans son livre, pour laquelle il prend du temps pour sortir cet album. Il ne se force pas à composer et attend que cela vienne !
On verra bien... et en tous les cas, je trouve qu'il a fait du bon boulot en solo... Hormis "Second Sighting", pour lequel je suis très mitigé, j'aime tous ses albums !

When Kiss arrived on the New York club scene in the early 1970s, they were unlike any other rock group. Glam rock and shock rock had both seen a major rise in popularity, but nobody was taking things to the extremes that Kiss were going for. Pyrotechnics, fire breathing, levitating drums, smoke bomb guitars and Kabuki makeup were part of the Kiss experience from the very beginning, and their combination together made the hard rock band a completely unique entity.

But surely all of that theatricality had to come from somewhere, right? As it turns out, most of Kiss’ influences were relatively mild compared to them. All four members had a strong love for British Invasion bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, with guitarist Ace Frehley taking more than a few notes from the riff-heavy approach that Keith Richards took to the guitar.

When it came to visuals, there was only one act that could possibly push Kiss in the right direction: Alice Cooper. When the members of Kiss saw the legendary shock rocker, it was the period when “Alice Cooper” was still a band of five. The same year that Kiss officially formed, Alice Cooper were touring behind their 1973 breakthrough LP Billion Dollar Babies. Frehley and Paul Stanley managed to score tickets that would help shape their own musical direction.

“Kiss was influenced by the whole English Invasion and also by Alice Cooper,” Frehley told Ultimate Guitar in 2018. “I remember one night me and Paul went to see Alice Cooper on the ‘Billion Dollar Babies Tour’ and we had really shitty tickets because we couldn’t afford the expensive ones. We ended up sneaking down and walking down the aisles to get closer to the stage.”

“Alice was like a god to us. We’ve been good friends. I got drunk with Alice before he got sober. I’m one of the few people that can say that because he’s been sober now 25 or 30 years,” Frehley remembers. “We were fascinated by Alice but he didn’t wear much makeup and just around the eyes. When we had a band meeting after that and between seeing them and The Who, we realized we wanted to have a theatrical rock group.”

“Wearing makeup but take it a step further and way further than anybody had done it,” Frehley added. “So pretty much after we made that decision, we started performing at a club in Amityville, Long Island, called The Daisy and that’s where we fine-tuned our makeup.”

Après cela, lorsque nous avons eu une réunion de groupe et entre les voir et The Who, nous avons réalisé que nous voulions avoir un groupe de rock théâtral.

"Porter du maquillage, mais aller plus loin et bien plus loin que quiconque ne l'avait fait", a ajouté Frehley. "Après avoir pris cette décision, nous avons commencé à nous produire dans un club d'Amityville, Long Island, appelé The Daisy, et c'est là que nous avons peaufiné notre maquillage."

Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley appeared last night (Friday, October 13) at this year's Kiss Cancer Goodbye II fundraiser for the American Cancer Society on Harvest House campus in Sarasota, Florida.

Fan-filmed video of Frehley's performance, during which he was joined by TRIXTER's Steve Brown, among other musicians, can be seen below.


Last month, Ace spent time mixing his new studio album for a tentative early 2024 release via MNRK Music Group (formerly known as eOne Music). Assisting the 72-year-old musician with some of the new LP's songwriting and production has been Brown, who took to his Instagram on September 22 to share a photo of him and Frehley, along with producer, engineer and mixer Bruno Ravel, who is best known for his role as bassist in DANGER DANGER. Steve wrote in an accompanying message: "This is a Rockin' Team right here. 8 tunes mixed and it sounds stellar @brunoravel mix/master general for the new @acefrehleyofficial @mnrk_heavy #recordingstudio #mixengineer #acefrehley #newalbum …and yeah I’m really short next to these guys".

Frehley spoke about the recording process for his new album this past March during an appearance on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk". At the time, he marveled at the amount of material he was able to complete, saying: "Within six days I had written and recorded five new songs, which is unprecedented for me."

Ace went on to say that he has also been working on his new LP with Peppy Castro of the BLUES MAGOOS. He added: "Back in the '60s, [the BLUES MAGOOS] had the big hit '(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet'. I grew up with him in the Bronx. He inspired me to become a rock star. I remember going to Orchard Beach in the Bronx, and all of a sudden I hear Peppy's song on the radio. I go, 'Jesus Christ. If he can do that, I can do it. I'm better looking than him.' [Laughs] He actually taught me how to play bar chord in the basement of an apartment building… But we've been friends ever since, and we've followed each other's career. And he's been in my studio a half dozen times. And he also hooked me up with Tommy Denander. He wrote three songs for me that I'm probably gonna rearrange at least one or two of them and add vocals. But me and Steve have been doing a song a day. It's insanity."

According to Ace, his upcoming LP will include at least one cover song.

"If my memory serves me correctly, the last two studio records I did both had one cover on them and one instrumental," he said. "I have two or three songs that can be instrumentals or I could add lyrics to it. I'm just deciding which one is gonna be the best one for an instrumental, because if I don't do an instrumental, my fans are gonna be upset, because every one of my studio albums have had an instrumental track on it. It all started with 'Fractured Mirror' in 1978."

Peppy previously collaborated with KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons as a songwriter and performed on Frehley's and KISS frontman Paul Stanley's solo records.

Ace's next all-original album will be the follow-up to "Spaceman", which was released in October 2018 via eOne.

Frehley's latest release was "Origins Vol. 2", the sequel to his 2016 collection of cover songs that inspired the former KISS guitarist.

"Origins Vol. 2" featured cover versions of THE BEATLES' "I'm Down", DEEP PURPLE's "Space Truckin'", LED ZEPPELIN's "Good Times Bad Times", THE ROLLING STONES' "Jumpin' Jack Flash", THE KINKS' "Lola" and THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE's "Manic Depression", among others. A cover of the 1975 KISS tune "She" also appeared as a bonus track. Guests on the set included CHEAP TRICK's Robin Zander, Lita Ford and former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.

KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons co-wrote two tracks on "Spaceman", "Without You I'm Nothing" and "Your Wish Is My Command", the latter of which also features Simmons's bass playing.

Frehley left KISS after the band's 2002 "Farewell Tour" dates, saying afterwards that he took the word "farewell" seriously. Drummer Peter Criss has claimed that his contract with KISS wasn't renewed in March 2004. Both charges have been disputed by Paul Stanley and Simmons.

Simmons and Stanley have chosen to have the rest of the current KISS lineup — guitarist Tommy Thayer and longtime drummer Eric Singer — dress up as Criss's and Frehley's respective "Spaceman" and "Catman" personas.

Classic rock hits from the original KISS guitarist and R&R Hall of Fame inductee. The success of Ace Frehley’s solo career, as both a recording artist and performer, has easily outpaced his former KISS bandmates.

His 2014 release Space Invader was the only post KISS solo album to crack the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart, and his acclaimed 2011 autobiography No Regrets went on to become a New York Times best-seller.

Ace’s current album, Origins II, was released on September 18, 2020, and features guests Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Lita Ford, Bruce Kulick and John 5.  With KISS on their farewell tour Ace is in the news just about every day - mentioned in every article referencing KISS as the original lead guitarist with most writers commenting that KISS is not the same without Ace.

Kiss Cancer Goodbye is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The first year of the event was 2022, and it was held in Nashville, TN at SIR Studios. This special occassion exceeded all expectations with over $40,000 donated to the American Cancer Society.

This year, Kiss Cancer Goodbye was relocated to Sarasota, FL at Harvest House, on the weekend of October 13th - 14th, 2023. Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was at the event both days, and was a special guest joining several bands for parts of their performances.

In a brand new interview with ZackAttack of the 93.5 FM MAX classic rock radio station in Muncie, Indiana, original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley offered an update on the progress of the recording sessions for his next studio LP. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "My album is done and it's being mastered as we speak. And if everything goes well over the weekend, the album is gonna be delivered to the record company Monday [October 30]."

Regarding what fans can expect from the upcoming effort, the 72-year-old rocker said: "I think it may be the best album I've ever done to date. And it's the first time I co-wrote most of the songs with Steve Brown from TRIXTER. He's a great songwriter, and I'm a great songwriter, and we put our two heads together and songs come out doubly good. He also harmonizes perfectly with me.

"I've never really written with that many people — most of the songs I write by myself," he explained. "I might get a little help from somebody, but this album pretty much is co-written by Steve and myself, almost every song. And it came out way better than I had anticipated. And the vocals are strong, the guitar solos are strong, the songs, the lyrics, the melodies, everything's really powerful."

Asked if he expected that his solo career would have this kind of longevity when he signed his first solo deal, Ace said: "It was hard in the beginning, but now I've picked up a lot of steam. In fact, I remember when I first signed with eOne Music — now they sold the record company to MNRK Music Group, and I'm still working with the same people — but I remember the guy that got me signed to the label, he told me that, before [2009's] 'Anomaly' came out, he said a lot of people said to him, 'You're not even gonna get the record.' Because [KISS founders] Paul [Stanley] and Gene [Simmons] have pretty much tried to destroy my credibility by calling me a drunk and a drug addict and somebody who's not dependable. But if that were the case, how did I make five albums? And I've been touring steadily for the last 10 years plus. It doesn't make any sense. They contradict themselves all the time. Now they're putting me down and saying if I came up and played with them on the farewell tour, it would mar their performance. Paul said on 'The Howard Stern Show', you might as well call the band PISS instead of KISS if I got up on stage with them. Well, when this album comes about, it's gonna make him look like an imbecile."

Frehley avait déjà parlé du processus d'enregistrement de son nouvel album en mars dernier lors d'une apparition sur "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" de SiriusXM. À l'époque, il s'émerveillait de la quantité de matériel qu'il était capable de terminer, déclarant : "En six jours, j'avais écrit et enregistré cinq nouvelles chansons, ce qui est sans précédent pour moi."

Ace a poursuivi en disant qu'il avait également travaillé sur son nouvel album avec Peppy Castro des BLUES MAGOOS. Selon Ace, son prochain LP comprendra au moins une reprise.

"Si ma mémoire est bonne, les deux derniers disques studio que j'ai faits comportaient tous deux une pochette et un instrument", a-t-il déclaré à "Trunk Nation". "J'ai deux ou trois chansons qui peuvent être instrumentales ou je pourrais y ajouter des paroles. Je suis juste en train de décider laquelle sera la meilleure pour un instrumental, parce que si je ne fais pas d'instrumental, mes fans vont soyez contrarié, car chacun de mes albums studio contenait un morceau instrumental. Tout a commencé avec « Fractured Mirror » en 1978. »

Ace Frehley has asserted that his upcoming solo album will make former bandmate Paul Stanley “look like an imbecile.”

The ex-Kiss guitarist reported that his sixth LP since relaunching his career in 2009 was almost ready for release, and stated that the fact that he had stayed on track for 15 years proved Stanley and Gene Simmons were wrong when they described him as a liability.

“I remember the guy that got me signed to the label, he told me that, before Anomaly came out [in 2009]… a lot of people said to him, ‘You're not even gonna get the record,’” Frehley told 93.5 FM MAX in a recent interview (audio below). “Because Paul and Gene have pretty much tried to destroy my credibility by calling me a drunk and a drug addict and somebody who's not dependable.”

He continued: “But if that were the case, how did I make five albums? And I’ve been touring steadily for the last 10 years plus. It doesn’t make any sense. They contradict themselves all the time. Now they’re putting me down and saying if I came up and played with them on the farewell tour, it would mar their performance.

“Paul said on The Howard Stern Show [that] you might as well call the band ‘Piss’ instead of ‘Kiss’ if I got up on stage with them. Well, when this album comes about, it’s gonna make him look like an imbecile.”

In March this year, Stanley told Stern why Kiss had refused to play with Frehley and ex drummer Peter Criss during their 2014 Rock Hall induction, saying: “Because if you saw people onstage who looked like Kiss but sounded like that, maybe we should be called Piss.” That led to an angry reaction from Frehley, who threatened to reveal “some dirt” if he didn’t receive an apology – although he later decided not to do so.

Ace Frehley Says New Album Co-Writer Made It Doubly Good
In the new interview, Frehley reported that the upcoming album was the first time he’d fully collaborated with another songwriter. “I think it may be the best album I’ve ever done to date,” Frehley said. “And it’s the first time I co-wrote most of the songs with Steve Brown from Trixter.

“He’s a great songwriter, and I’m a great songwriter, and we put our two heads together and songs come out doubly good. He also harmonizes perfectly with me. … And the vocals are strong, the guitar solos are strong; the songs, the lyrics, the melodies, everything’s really powerful.”

While no further details were revealed, Frehley said the album was set to be delivered to his record label on Oct. 30. Kiss will deliver their final shows on Dec. 1 and 2 in New York City, and it looks unlikely that either Frehley or Criss will take part.

Ace Frehley says his new solo album is “done and being mastered as we speak”, adding that “it may be the best album I’ve ever done to date”.

In a new interview with Muncie, Indiana classic rock radio station 93.5 FM MAX, the guitarist touches upon his longevity as a solo artist following his days with Kiss, saying that he’s managed to make it work despite his former bandmates Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons trying to “destroy my credibility”.

“It was hard in the beginning, but now I’ve picked up a lot of steam,” he says [via Blabbermouth]. “In fact, I remember when I first signed with eOne Music – now they sold the record company to MNRK Music Group, and I’m still working with the same people – but I remember the guy that got me signed to the label, he told me that, before Anomaly [2009] came out, he said a lot of people said to him, ‘You’re not even gonna get the record.’

“Because Paul [Stanley] and Gene [Simmons] have pretty much tried to destroy my credibility by calling me a drunk and a drug addict and somebody who’s not dependable. But if that were the case, how did I make five albums? And I’ve been touring steadily for the last 10 years plus. It doesn’t make any sense. They contradict themselves all the time.”

He continues: “Now they’re putting me down and saying if I came up and played with them on the farewell tour, it would mar their performance. Paul said on The Howard Stern Show, you might as well call the band ‘Piss’ instead of ‘Kiss’ if I got up on stage with them.

Elsewhere in the interview, Frehley discusses the songwriting process for the forthcoming album, and what it was like co-writing most tracks with Trixters’ Steve Brown.

“It’s the first time I co-wrote most of the songs with Steve Brown from Trixter,” he says. “He’s a great songwriter, and I’m a great songwriter, and we put our two heads together and songs come out doubly good. He also harmonises perfectly with me.”

“I’ve never really written with that many people – most of the songs I write by myself,” he continues. “I might get a little help from somebody, but this album pretty much is co-written by Steve and myself, almost every song. And it came out way better than I had anticipated. And the vocals are strong, the guitar solos are strong, the songs, the lyrics, the melodies, everything’s really powerful.”

There’s no concrete release date for the record yet, but Frehley last week said, “If everything goes well over the weekend, the album is gonna be delivered to the record company Monday [October 30].”

I remember it as it was yesterday. I was standing in the record section of T-Way, approximately where the frozen foods are in Elwood's super duper Dollar Store now. In one hand, I held the Paul Stanley solo album and Gene Simmon's solo record in the other. I really wanted a new AC/DC record; the tiny T-Way didn't have any. Now, I was in the midst of deciding which one to get, as the end cap had a shit-ton both on display. I decided on Gene because, well, Satan. But, as I start to leave, I round the corner, and on the opposite endcap was a shit-ton of Peter and Ace's solo records. I saw KISS the year before, and while I enjoyed Gene's stomping around, blood-spitting, fire-breathing antics, it was Ace Frehley's (literally) smoking guitar solo that got my mojo going. Also, "Rocket Ride" was my favorite KISS song (and still is). So, I snatched up Ace's album, and it became the winter of Ace Frehley.


"Rip It Out," "Ozone," and "I'm In Need Of Love" were in my constant playlist, and even though I got all the other Solo records and all the KISS albums up to Unmasked, albums like The Wall, Highway To Hell and Parallel Lines made Ace Frehley the last KISS album I truly unconditionally loved. I saw Kiss a couple more times in the '80s, but they really didn't have the same power as they did the first I saw them in their pre-Double Platinum prime.

However, Ace's next two albums, Frehley's Comet, and Trouble Walkin', were major mainstays, and even all the way up to his recent Origins covers projects and his last album, Spaceman, were full of vital and engaging music. It's kinda telling that while KISS is taking a worldwide mega victory lap full of fire, blood, and nostalgia, Ace Frehley is plugging away, playing theaters, and being excited about his new record, which is due out in February.

Central Indiana will have 2 chances to see Ace this week. He's playing this Thursday night, November 2, in the beautiful Brown County Music Center in Nashville, Indiana, and the next night at The Paramount Theater in downtown Anderson, Indiana. I was lucky enough to have a phoner with Ace last week.

NUVO: First of all, before we start anything, I wanna thank you for inspiring me to go on this crazy rock and roll journey. I was 11 years old. I ran away from home to see you guys play at the Market Square Arena, and it was one of the greatest moments of my life.

Ace Frehley: Do you know how many stories I've heard that are similar to yours?

NUVO: It's hard to come up with questions for you because everything seems to have already been asked of you.

AF: I gotta tell you, Jeff, 90% of my interviews are pretty much the same fucking questions. My life is an open book, and my history with KISS and everything has been written about endlessly. It just staggers me when people ask me the same fucking questions, you know like they just haven't done their homework. But once in a while, I get an interviewer who will ask me some interesting questions that I've never been asked before. Do you have any of those?

NUVO: What question do you wish that people would ask you?

AF: In reality, right now, we should be talking about my new album, which, actually, is being mastered as we speak. It is gonna be delivered to the record company on Monday. It's probably the best record I've ever done. I'm very excited about it. It's the first time I ended up writing most of these songs with a good friend of mine, Steve Brown. He used to play in Trixter and has a group called Rubix Kube. Anyway, we live 40 minutes from each other, and my fiance Lara hooked us up. I'd met him several times over the years, but just briefly, but she knew him when she was in her twenties, and she said you gotta get together with Steve. He's a great songwriter and guitar player. He sent me a song, and there was one line that just jumped out from his chorus, and it was "Walking On The Moon." So I said listen, let's get together and rewrite this song, and the hook will be "Walking On The Moon" because it wasn't the end of the chorus he had prepared. So, we rewrote the song, and it came out great. We were actually gonna call the album Walking On The Moon until we recorded a song called "10,000 Volts," which came out amazing. I got Anton Fig, my old drummer, who played on my original '78 solo album and most of my solo stuff, to play drums on that. So, working with Steve has made a huge difference in my playing and writing because when he and I put our heads together, it just clicks. If I'm at a loss for a cord or a verse or a line, he comes up with it and vice versa, and within three or four hours, we write a song.

So that's how the record's been going, you know. Then, once you record the basic track, you gotta do the overdubs and double and triple the vocals, harmonies, and stuff. He's an excellent engineer. So I didn't have to pay an engineer to engineer this record. So I saved money on that, working with Steve as well, which is nice.

NUVO: Did recording your Origins 1 & 2 records inspire you on this new record?

AF: It's one thing doing an origins record because you don't have to write the songs. Basically, I was picking songs that influenced me that were written by other people. So it's a lot easier to do than when you do a regular studio record where all the songs are original. On this record, all the songs are original except for one. I did one cover of a song called "Life of a Stranger," written by a gal named Nadia. When she did the song, it was Euro-pop, and it was very sparsely recorded. I listened to it and loved the melody, and I loved the lyrics. I played it for Steve, and he said, you know, we could kill this song, you know, with heavy drums and power chords and stuff and keyboards even. It came out great. All the other songs did as well. There's really not a weak song on the record. Most people do a record, and they concentrate on three or four songs that they think might be singles, and then the rest of it is a lot of filler. But every song on this album I can hear on the radio. I hope DJs agree with me.

NUVO: Are we gonna hear any new stuff when you come to play?

AF: No, the album will be released in February 2024. Later in November, we're releasing the title track, which is "10,000 Volts," and once that's released, I can include it in the set. I'll be doing that once it comes out, and then there'll be a second single and a third single, and then the album comes out in February. I'm really excited to see the response I'm gonna get because I really think it's, it's gonna be positive, and people are gonna be very, very surprised because I think it's one of my best records.

NUVO: Do you ever get tired of doing the same songs over and over?

AF: No. Because every time, it's a fresh audience, and I love to see the reaction. It's still exciting to me to perform live at age 72. I'm pretty amazed that I'm still doing it at my age. When you listen to the record, and you listen to my voice, to somebody that didn't know me, they wouldn't believe you if you said, "Oh, that guy singing lead is 72 years old" because I still sound like I did in my twenties. I'm actually singing better now than I was when I was younger because I'm singing more live, and that strengthens my vocal cords. The vocals on this album are very strong. Some of the best vocal work I've ever done as well, besides the guitar work

NUVO: You were very reluctant to sing at the very beginning of your career.

AF: Yeah. My '78 solo album with, "New York Groove" which was a big hit and still stands as a masterpiece. I think this new record equals or surpasses it. I hope everybody else agrees with me. I'm sure these shows are gonna be great. My band is killer. I'm in the best shape of my life. I'm down to 180. I've been working out, and I feel strong. My voice is strong, and my band is great. So, uh, I think everybody who comes to the show is gonna love it.


NUVO: I'm glad I made it through an entire interview without asking you a KISS question.

AF: I haven't played with KISS in 17 years or something. It's not the same band without me. So, why would you? What I really find surprising is the way Paul Stanley has continually, in the last year, put me and Peter Criss down. He just made a statement that if we played with them at (KISS' final show at) Madison Square Garden, it would mar the performance. He's basically shooting himself in the foot and making an asshole out of himself. Because for him to make a statement like that when they haven't come out with an album in eight or nine years, whereas I put out, you know, 5-6. When people hear those statements, they're just gonna realize that he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about and is probably just jealous. It's always been real for me.

I actually feel bad for him because his voice isn't what it used to be. He has to resort to using backing tracks. Even their manager, Doc McGhee, admitted it. So it's a sad way to go out. I offered my services a year or two ago when I heard they were doing their last tour, and I spoke to my music attorney, and he said Gene wanted me to come back, and Doc wanted me to come back. But Paul was the one that didn't want me to come back. Yeah, it's pretty obvious he's an egomaniac and wants all the spotlight. If returned to the band, I'd get all the press. Plus, Paul would have to compete with me on stage. Look at Tommy Thayer on stage, and then you look at all videos of me, you know, it's night and day.

Je m'en souviens comme si c'était hier. Je me tenais dans la section des disques de T-Way, à peu près là où se trouvent actuellement les aliments surgelés dans le super duper Dollar Store d'Elwood. Mais de temps en temps, je reçois un intervieweur qui me pose des questions intéressantes qu'on ne m'a jamais posées auparavant. En avez-vous une ?

NUVO : Quelle question souhaiteriez-vous que les gens vous posent ?

AF : En réalité, en ce moment, nous devrions parler de mon nouvel album, qui, d'ailleurs, est en cours de masterisation au moment où nous parlons. Il sera livré à la maison de disques lundi. C'est probablement le meilleur disque que j'ai jamais fait. J'en suis très excité. C'est la première fois que j'écris la plupart de ces chansons avec un bon ami, Steve Brown. Il a joué dans Trixter et possède un groupe appelé Rubix Kube. Quoi qu'il en soit, nous vivons à 40 minutes l'un de l'autre et ma fiancée Lara nous a mis en contact. Je l'avais rencontré plusieurs fois au fil des ans, mais juste brièvement, mais elle l'avait connu quand elle avait la vingtaine, et elle m'a dit que tu devais te réunir avec Steve. C'est un grand auteur-compositeur et guitariste. Il m'a envoyé une chanson, et il y avait une phrase qui sortait tout simplement de son refrain, et c'était "Walking On The Moon". Alors j'ai dit écoutez, réunissons-nous et réécrivons cette chanson, et le refrain sera "Walking On The Moon" parce que ce n'était pas la fin du refrain qu'il avait préparé. Nous avons donc réécrit la chanson et le résultat est génial. En fait, nous allions appeler l'album Walking On The Moon jusqu'à ce que nous enregistrions une chanson intitulée "10,000 Volts", qui était géniale. J'ai demandé à Anton Fig, mon ancien batteur, qui a joué sur mon album solo original de 1978 et la plupart de mes trucs solo, de jouer de la batterie là-dessus. Donc, travailler avec Steve a fait une énorme différence dans mon jeu et mon écriture parce que lorsque lui et moi mettons nos têtes ensemble, ça fait un déclic. Si je suis à court d'une corde, d'un couplet ou d'une réplique, il me le propose et vice versa, et en trois ou quatre heures, nous écrivons une chanson.

C’est comme ça que se déroule le disque, vous savez. Ensuite, une fois que vous avez enregistré la piste de base, vous devez faire les overdubs et doubler et tripler les voix, les harmonies et tout le reste. C'est un excellent ingénieur. Je n’ai donc pas eu besoin de payer un ingénieur pour créer ce disque. J'ai donc économisé de l'argent là-dessus, en travaillant également avec Steve, ce qui est bien.

NUVO : L'enregistrement de vos disques Origins 1 & 2 vous a-t-il inspiré pour ce nouvel album ?

AF : C'est une chose de faire un album Origins parce que vous n'êtes pas obligé d'écrire les chansons. En gros, je choisissais des chansons qui m’influençaient et qui étaient écrites par d’autres personnes. C'est donc beaucoup plus facile à faire que lorsque vous faites un enregistrement studio classique où toutes les chansons sont originales. Sur ce disque, toutes les chansons sont originales sauf une. J'ai fait une reprise d'une chanson intitulée "Life of a Stranger", écrite par une fille nommée Nadia. Quand elle a composé la chanson, c'était de l'euro-pop et elle a été très peu enregistrée. Je l'ai écouté et j'ai adoré la mélodie, et j'ai adoré les paroles. Je l'ai joué pour Steve, et il a dit, vous savez, nous pourrions tuer cette chanson, vous savez, avec une batterie lourde, des accords puissants, des trucs et même des claviers. Le résultat est génial. Toutes les autres chansons ont fait de même. Il n'y a vraiment pas une chanson faible sur le disque. NUVO : Est-ce qu'on va entendre du nouveau truc quand tu viendras jouer ?

AF : Non, l'album sortira en février 2024. Plus tard en novembre, nous sortirons la chanson titre, qui est « 10,000 Volts », et une fois sortie, je pourrai l'inclure dans le set. Je ferai ça une fois qu'il sortira, puis il y aura un deuxième single et un troisième single, puis l'album sortira en février. Je suis vraiment excité de voir la réponse que je vais obtenir parce que je pense vraiment que ça va être positif, et les gens vont être très, très surpris parce que je pense que c'est l'un de mes meilleurs disques.

NUVO : En avez-vous parfois marre de répéter encore et encore les mêmes chansons ?

AF : Non. Parce qu'à chaque fois, c'est un public nouveau, et j'aime voir la réaction. C'est toujours excitant pour moi de jouer en live à 72 ans. Je suis assez étonné de pouvoir encore le faire à mon âge. Quand vous écoutez le disque et que vous écoutez ma voix, quelqu'un qui ne me connaît pas ne vous croirait pas si vous disiez : "Oh, ce type qui chante a 72 ans" parce que j'ai toujours l'air de Je l'ai fait dans la vingtaine. En fait, je chante mieux maintenant que lorsque j'étais plus jeune parce que je chante davantage en live, et cela renforce mes cordes vocales. Le chant sur cet album est très fort. Certains des meilleurs travaux vocaux que j'ai jamais réalisés, en plus du travail à la guitare.

NUVO : Vous étiez très réticent à chanter au tout début de votre carrière.

AF : Ouais. Mon album solo de 1978 avec "New York Groove" qui a été un grand succès et qui reste toujours un chef-d'œuvre. Je pense que ce nouveau record l'égale ou le dépasse. J'espère que tout le monde est d'accord avec moi. Je suis sûr que ces émissions seront géniales. Mon groupe est une tuerie. Je suis dans la meilleure forme de ma vie. J'en suis à 180. Je me suis entraîné et je me sens fort. Ma voix est forte et mon groupe est génial. Donc, je pense que tous ceux qui viendront au spectacle vont adorer.

NUVO : Je suis content d'avoir réussi une interview entière sans vous poser de question KISS.

AF : Je n'ai pas joué avec KISS depuis 17 ans ou quelque chose du genre. Ce n'est pas le même groupe sans moi. Alors, pourquoi le ferais-tu ? Ce que je trouve vraiment surprenant, c'est la façon dont Paul Stanley n'a cessé, au cours de la dernière année, de nous rabaisser, moi et Peter Criss. Il vient de déclarer que si nous jouions avec eux au (dernier concert de KISS au) Madison Square Garden, cela gâcherait la performance. En gros, il se tire une balle dans le pied et se ridiculise. Parce que pour lui, faire une telle déclaration alors qu'ils n'ont pas sorti d'album depuis huit ou neuf ans, alors que j'en ai sorti, vous savez, 5-6. En fait, je me sens mal pour lui parce que sa voix n'est plus ce qu'elle était. Il doit recourir à des pistes d'accompagnement. Même leur manager, Doc McGhee, l'a admis. C'est donc une triste façon de sortir. J'ai proposé mes services il y a un an ou deux quand j'ai appris qu'ils faisaient leur dernière tournée, et j'ai parlé à mon avocat spécialisé en musique, et il a dit que Gene voulait que je revienne, et Doc voulait que je revienne. Mais Paul était celui qui ne voulait pas que je revienne. Ouais, c'est assez évident qu'il est égoïste et qu'il veut être sous les feux des projecteurs. Si je revenais dans le groupe, j'aurais toute la presse. De plus, Paul devrait rivaliser avec moi sur scène. Regardez Tommy Thayer sur scène, puis regardez toutes les vidéos de moi, vous savez, c'est le jour et la nuit.

Ace Frehley has shared more details about his upcoming solo album 10,000 Volts, which is tentatively scheduled to arrive in February 2024.

"It's probably the best record I've ever done," the ex-Kiss guitarist enthused in a new interview with Nuvo. "I'm very excited about it. It's the first time I ended up writing most of these songs with a good friend of mine, Steve Brown. He used to play in Trixter and has a group called Rubix Kube."

Frehley said he was originally going to call the album Walking on the Moon until he recorded a song called "10,000 Volts." The LP also features another noteworthy musician in the Kiss extended universe. "I got Anton Fig, my old drummer, who played on my original '78 solo album and most of my solo stuff, to play drums on that," Frehley said. "So, working with Steve has made a huge difference in my playing and writing because when he and I put our heads together, it just clicks. If I'm at a loss for a chord or a verse or a line, he comes up with it and vice versa, and within three or four hours, we write a song."
Frehley has released five solo albums since rebooting his career with 2009's Anomaly, most recently issuing the Origins Vol. 2 covers set in 2020. (His new album will only feature one cover, a hard-rock rendition of Nadia's "Life of a Stranger.") He's clearly proud of 10,000 Volts, having recently boasted that it will make his former Kiss bandmate Paul Stanley "look like an imbecile."

“I remember the guy that got me signed to the label, he told me that, before Anomaly came out … a lot of people said to him, ‘You're not even gonna get the record,'" Frehley recently told 93.5 FM MAX. "Because Paul and Gene [Simmons] have pretty much tried to destroy my credibility by calling me a drunk and a drug addict and somebody who's not dependable."

"But if that were the case, how did I make five albums?" Frehley continued. "And I've been touring steadily for the last 10 years plus. It doesn’t make any sense. They contradict themselves all the time. Now they’re putting me down and saying if I came up and played with them on the farewell tour, it would mar their performance.

"Paul said on The Howard Stern Show [that] you might as well call the band 'Piss' instead of 'Kiss' if I got up on stage with them. Well, when this album comes about, it's gonna make him look like an imbecile."

Frehley further claimed that 10,000 Volts is all-killer, no-filler. "There's really not a weak song on the record," he said. "Most people do a record, and they concentrate on three or four songs that they think might be singles, and then the rest of it is a lot of filler. But every song on this album I can hear on the radio. I hope DJs agree with me."

Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley is looking to let his music do the talking when it comes to his feud with ex-bandmate Paul Stanley. But, he’s also letting his mouth do the talking, too!

Earlier this year, Stanley told Howard Stern that KISS would sound like “PISS” if they let original members Frehley and Peter Criss back in the band. Frehley then threatened to spill dirt on Stanley and Gene Simmons if he didn’t get an apology from Stanley. He later reported that Stanley’s response to his demand for an apology was, “Fuck you!”

In a new interview with 93.5 FM MAX (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Frehley pointed to his ability to maintain a steady music career following his exit from the band 20 years ago.

“It was hard in the beginning, but now I’ve picked up a lot of steam,” said Frehley, “In fact, I remember … the guy that got me signed to the label, he told me that, before [2009’s] Anomaly came out, he said a lot of people said to him, ‘You’re not even gonna get the record.’ Because Paul and Gene have pretty much tried to destroy my credibility by calling me a drunk and a drug addict and somebody who’s not dependable. But if that were the case, how did I make five albums? And I’ve been touring steadily for the last 10 years plus.”

He continued, “They contradict themselves all the time. Now they’re putting me down and saying if I came up and played with them on the farewell tour, it would mar their performance. Paul said on The Howard Stern Show, you might as well call the band PISS instead of KISS if I got up on stage with them. Well, when this album comes about, it’s gonna make him look like an imbecile.”

KISS just launched the final leg of their “End of the Road” farewell tour (pick up tickets here), which is set to wrap up with a two-night stand December 1st and 2nd at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

In the same interview, Frehley called his upcoming LP “the best album I’ve ever done to date,” adding that he co-wrote most of it with Trixter’s Steve Brown. The guitarist has a handful of tour dates coming up this month, with tickets available here.

In an interview with Jeff Napier of Nuvo, original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley discussed his recently completed new album, "10,000 Volts", which is tentatively due in February 2024 via MNRK Music Group (formerly eOne Music). He said: "It's probably the best record I've ever done. I'm very excited about it. It's the first time I ended up writing most of these songs with a good friend of mine, Steve Brown. He used to play in TRIXTER and has a group called RUBIX KUBE. Anyway, we live 40 minutes from each other, and my fiancée Lara hooked us up. I'd met him several times over the years, but just briefly, but she knew him when she was in her twenties, and she said, 'You've gotta get together with Steve.' He's a great songwriter and guitar player. He sent me a song, and there was one line that just jumped out from his chorus, and it was 'Walking On The Moon'. So I said, 'Listen, let's get together and rewrite this song, and the hook will be 'Walking On The Moon',' because it wasn't the end of the chorus he had prepared. So, we rewrote the song, and it came out great. We were actually gonna call the album 'Walking On The Moon' until we recorded a song called '10,000 Volts', which came out amazing. I got Anton Fig, my old drummer, who played on my original '78 solo album and most of my solo stuff, to play drums on that. So, working with Steve has made a huge difference in my playing and writing because when he and I put our heads together, it just clicks. If I'm at a loss for a chord or a verse or a line, he comes up with it and vice versa, and within three or four hours, we write a song.

"So that's how the record's been going," Ace added. "Then, once you record the basic track, you gotta do the overdubs and double and triple the vocals, harmonies, and stuff. He's an excellent engineer. So I didn't have to pay an engineer to engineer this record. So I saved money on that, working with Steve as well, which is nice."

Asked if making "Origins Vol. 2", the sequel to his 2016 collection of cover songs that inspired the former KISS guitarist, affected the way he put together the new record, Frehley said: "It's one thing doing an 'Origins' record because you don't have to write the songs. Basically, I was picking songs that influenced me that were written by other people. So it's a lot easier to do than when you do a regular studio record where all the songs are original. On this record, all the songs are original except for one. I did one cover of a song called 'Life Of A Stranger', written by a gal named Nadia. When she did the song, it was Europop, and it was very sparsely recorded. I listened to it and loved the melody, and I loved the lyrics. I played it for Steve, and he said, 'We could kill this song with heavy drums and power chords and stuff and keyboards even.' It came out great. All the other songs did as well. There's really not a weak song on the record. Most people do a record, and they concentrate on three or four songs that they think might be singles, and then the rest of it is a lot of filler. But every song on this album I can hear on the radio. I hope DJs agree with me."

Frehley previously spoke about the recording process for his new album this past March during an appearance on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk". At the time, the 72-year-old rocker marveled at the amount of material he was able to complete, saying: "Within six days I had written and recorded five new songs, which is unprecedented for me."

Ace went on to say that he had also been working on his new LP with Peppy Castro of the BLUES MAGOOS. He added: "Back in the '60s, [the BLUES MAGOOS] had the big hit '(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet'. I grew up with him in the Bronx. He inspired me to become a rock star. I remember going to Orchard Beach in the Bronx, and all of a sudden I hear Peppy's song on the radio. I go, 'Jesus Christ. If he can do that, I can do it. I'm better looking than him.' [Laughs] He actually taught me how to play bar chord in the basement of an apartment building… But we've been friends ever since, and we've followed each other's career. And he's been in my studio a half dozen times. And he also hooked me up with Tommy Denander. He wrote three songs for me that I'm probably gonna rearrange at least one or two of them and add vocals. But me and Steve have been doing a song a day. It's insanity."

Peppy previously collaborated with KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons as a songwriter and performed on Frehley's and Stanley's solo records.

Ace's next all-original album will be the follow-up to "Spaceman", which was released in October 2018 via eOne.

"Origins Vol. 2" featured cover versions of THE BEATLES' "I'm Down", DEEP PURPLE's "Space Truckin'", LED ZEPPELIN's "Good Times Bad Times", THE ROLLING STONES' "Jumpin' Jack Flash", THE KINKS' "Lola" and THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE's "Manic Depression", among others. A cover of the 1975 KISS tune "She" also appeared as a bonus track. Guests on the set included CHEAP TRICK's Robin Zander, Lita Ford and former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.

Simmons co-wrote two tracks on "Spaceman", "Without You I'm Nothing" and "Your Wish Is My Command", the latter of which also features Gene's bass playing.

Frehley avait déjà parlé du processus d'enregistrement de son nouvel album en mars dernier lors d'une apparition sur "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" de SiriusXM. "Lola" et "Manic Depression" de THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, entre autres. Une reprise du morceau KISS de 1975 "She" est également apparue en bonus. Parmi les invités sur le plateau figuraient Robin Zander de CHEAP TRICK, Lita Ford et l'ancien guitariste de KISS Bruce Kulick.

Simmons a co-écrit deux morceaux sur "Spaceman", "Without You I'm Nothing" et "Your Wish Is My Command", ce dernier présentant également le jeu de basse de Gene.

Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley is getting ready to share some new music. In an interview with Nuvo, Frehley reveals that he’ll be releasing a new solo record next year.

“It’s probably the best record I’ve ever done,” he says. “I’m very excited about it.”
The album is expected to come out in February, with the title track “10,000 Volts” being released in November.

“I’m really excited to see the response I’m gonna get because I really think it’s, it’s gonna be positive, and people are gonna be very, very surprised because I think it’s one of my best records,” he shares.
Frehley’s former band is getting ready to say goodbye to the road in December, and while fans would probably love to see him join them onstage for their final shows at Madison Square Garden, that’s not going to happen. Frehley says he offered to play on the tour, and heard that both Gene Simmons and KISS manager Doc McGhee wanted him — but Paul Stanley nixed it.

“It’s pretty obvious he’s an egomaniac and wants all the spotlight. If [I] returned to the band, I’d get all the press,” Frehley says, adding that he’s surprised Stanley keeps saying negative things about him and former KISS drummer Peter Criss in the press.

“He just made a statement that if we played with them at Madison Square Garden, it would mar the performance. He’s basically shooting himself in the foot and making an a****** out of himself,” Frehley says. “When people hear those statements, they’re just gonna realize that he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about and is probably just jealous.”
